Taliban deputy commander held in Karachi

KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sindh police on Friday arrested a Taliban deputy commander in a raid in Sultanabad area of Keamari Town, as three of his aides managed to escape. SIU chief SSP Raja Umer Khattab said the raid was launched following a tip off from sources. After a brief gunfight, several policemen entered the house, where a Taliban attempted to blow himself up with a hand grenade. The SIU chief said the grenade did not explode and the policemen arrested the Taliban, identified as Ayaz Khan alias Abu Kasha. He said Ayaz had admitted that he came to Karachi to escape the military operation in Swat.
